In Philippe Garrels tender and heartbreaking the entire Garrel clan steps in front of the camera as versions of themselves: including patriarch Maurice, five-year-old Louis and Philippe Garrel himself. When a philandering film director (Garrel) refuses to cast his stage actress wife (Garrels then-wife Brigitte Sy) in a role largely based on her, the couple begins to wrestle with their conflicting philosophies on art and life.
