The Wind in the Willows: On returning from a fortnight's spendthrift in London, Toad is full of admiration for the maze at Hampton Court. His enthusiasm prompts Badger to mention that Toad Hall actually has a maze of its own - a feature that Toad has never had the time or energy to discover. Toad decides to have a grand opening of the maze, believing that it will make him and his house the focus of the press, and elevate him to the peerage. Unfortunately, he also manages to convince himself that the maze is haunted by the ghost of a gardener, after finding a solitary boot in a pile of junk cleared from the maze. When he challenges his friends to compete with him in the maze, he ends up lost in there himself...with only the thought of the vengeful (and non-existent) ghost to keep him company!
